Valasht Lake, a dream lake in the Kelardasht area

Valasht Lake, with an area of 400 x 600 meters and a depth of more than 40 meters, is located southwest of the town of Chalus and north-east of Kelardasht. It is located at an altitude of about 1000 meters above the Caspian Sea and at a distance of 15 kilometers from the city of Hassankif (central district of Kelardasht).

The mountainous lake of Valasht is one of the ten freshwater lakes of Iran and is an environment conducive to a very diverse fauna and flora. Thus, thanks to its exceptional panorama and nature, it is one of the most visited natural sites in the country.

At kilometer 25 of the Karadj-Chalous road lies the town of Marzan Abad. Kelardasht is located to the west and 12 kilometers from this city, at the foot of the Alborz mountain range. To the south-east stands the famous Mount Alam Kouh.

Many rivers and springs flow in Kelardasht, the most important of which is the Abroud River. The latter originates in the mountains west of Kelardasht and irrigates part of the lands of the western region of Chalous, before spilling into the Caspian Sea.

Among the attractions of Kelardasht are several small and large lakes that add to the natural beauty of the place. Valasht Lake is one of the attractions of this unique place. If we exclude Sama, a village that empties its inhabitants in winter, Nessar, 4 kilometers from Valasht, is the most populated village and the closest. Kelardasht is the nearest town to this village.

The rain and underground springs provide the lake water. The climate is humid and cool. This lake has become the summer district of the inhabitants of Chalous: they pitch tents and, for some, try fishing. The climate of this place is nevertheless quite changeable: from sunny, it can become misty and rainy in the blink of an eye.

How to go to Valasht Lake

Two paths can be taken to this lake:

The first road passes by the road of Kandovan (Karadj-Tchalous). Two kilometers after Marzan Abad towards Chalous, we come to a fork. The very steep slope leads to the lake. This dirt road starts in front of the service station of Marzan Abad.

The second way: for travelers who stay in Kelardasht and want to visit Valasht Lake, it is recommended to choose the route of Hassan Kyf-Marzan Abad. The departure is from the city of Hassan Kyf to the east, by a road that leads to the village of Lahou. After that, we arrive at another village called Kalnou, which is about 5 kilometers from the lake.
